Strum Sum Band

Early in 2012, Bob DuCharme (banjo) met Mike Reed (mandolin, guitar) at his store in White Sulphur Springs and together they noticed that they had mutual musical interests. After strumming a few times together, Bob set up a meeting with Tom Hefner (12 string guitar, bass singer) and George Piasecki (bass guitar) both of whom he knew to have similar music interests.

About a month later the four of us played our first "gig" at the White Sulphur Springs Library. We had a lot of fun, and hope that the audience did too!

The rest is history! Now starting our seventh year as a group, we continue to add songs to our eclectic repertory and have performed at festivals, private events, and varied local venues.

We do it for fun, and as Bob says, we do it shamelessly. At our ages, it is time now to act out and enjoy our hobby and our friends.

Enjoy the music of the Strum Sum Band at 3:00 pm on the Masonic Amphitheatre stage during Heritage Day, June 1 from 10 to 5!

Artisan Moment, Alleghany Highlands Master Gardeners

“Since 1979, Virginia Extension Master Gardeners have served communities throughout the Commonwealth by
providing answers to individual questions and educational programs to meet targeted needs.
Extension Master Gardeners do not provide free gardening labor--they work to provide research-based horticultural information to Virginia home gardeners.

The Alleghany Highlands Master gardeners trouble shoot, plan gardens, do demonstrations, make presentations and answer gardening questions for community members. They also enjoy learning more about gardening via fellowship and their relationship with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service.”
