Alan Miller, a retired forester from West Virginia will be at Heritage Day demonstrating making white oak baskets. Alan cuts the tree and  makes all splits etc. to create the oak baskets.  Alan is a white oak basket instructor at Augusta Heritage workshop at Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. Before retiring, Alan was a forest entomologist and assistant state forester in charge of forest protection.  Alan lives in Upper Tract, West Virginia where he makes baskets, split bottom chairs and wooden cooking utensils.
